Muslim Minorities Monitor calls on the Moroccan authorities to disclose the fate of the Uyghur “Idris Hasan”, who was arrested in Casablanca 17 months ago
Muslim Minorities Monitor calls on the Moroccan authorities to disclose the fate of Uyghur “Idris Hassan”, who was arrested at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca on (July 19, 2021) on the basis of a red notice issued by the Interpol, at the request of the Chinese authorities.
Although the red notice against the Uyghur Idris Hasan was cancelled; However, the Moroccan Court of Cassation issued a favourable opinion on the extradition request in its ruling (No. 1799, dated December 15, 2021), which constitutes a serious threat to his physical, intellectual, and psychological integrity. As he faces the risk of arbitrary detention in detention camps in Xinjiang Province (East Turkestan), in which China detains at least one million Uyghur Muslims, subjecting them to various types of torture, depriving them of practicing their Islamic rituals, and other types of persecution.
The fate of Idris remains unknown to this day, 17 months after his arrest in Morocco, despite the cancellation of the red notice against him, and the evidence of persecution practiced by the Chinese authorities against Uyghur Muslims.
Therefore, The Monitor calls on the Moroccan authorities to fulfill their commitment to the international laws, which prevent the extradition of any person to a country where he faces a real threat of torture and persecution.
