Muslim Minorities Monitor Condemns the Swedish Authorities Decision to Give Right-Wing Extremists Permission to Burn the Holy Qur’ān
Statement by Muslim Minorities Monitor
Muslim Minorities Monitor condemns in the strongest of terms the decision of Swedish authorities to grant permission to right-wing extremists to burn a copy of the Holy Qur’ān, and to exploit the sanctity of the most sacred book in Islam to achieve political gains, which poses a real threat to social peace between the Muslim minority in Sweden and the Swedish community, and constitutes a major provocation to the largest religious minority in Sweden, and to all Muslims around the world.
Muslim Minorities Monitor emphasises that contempt for Islamic sanctities, spreading of religious hatred and empowerment of Islamophobia, has never been, nor will it ever be justified in the name of freedom of expression. Rather, it constitutes a real threat to religious freedom and minority rights, and it minimises the chances of coexistence and harmony between the Muslim minority and the Swedish community.
The Monitor calls on the Swedish Authorities to put an end to the violations of the rights of Swedish Muslims, and to end the disgraceful exploitation of Islamic sanctities, and of the feelings of the Muslim minority in Sweden at every political dispute or international crisis relating to Muslims, stressing that the rights of Swedish Muslims are no less than the rights of others, and that they are an integral part of the Swedish community.
