The United Ulamā Council of South Africa published a statement condemning the violent acts of Israel amed recent storming of the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, Palestine, by members of the Israeli cabinet.
In their statement: “The United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) condemns the recent act of deliberate provocation by a far-right Israeli cabinet minister. On Tuesday, Itamar Ben-Gvir, accompanied by his security personnel, stormed al-Aqsa noble Sanctuary in Occupied Jerusalem. Masjid al-Aqsa and its precincts constitute the third most sacred place in Islam. The preservation of its sanctity is a matter of religious duty for Muslims, the world over.”

The United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) was founded in 1994 with the object of forming an inclusive forum for mainstream Ulama formations in South Africa.
The aim of establishing an umbrella body comprising of Ulama formations which subscribe to varying interpretations of religious ideology was to unitedly work towards the preservation, promotion and protection of the distinct Muslim identity in the new South Africa.
The year 1994 formed a transformation point for the Muslim minority in South Africa, as the political shift after apartheid paved the road for the Muslim minority there to be empowered and independent, which made it one of the most empowered Muslim minorities in the world, and contributed to its activism with the international affairs concerning the Muslim Ummah.
